Sweet Dreams

Just some random thoughts...

I was cuddling Little Miss M in bed the other night, waiting for her to go to sleep.  I watched in fascination as she went from
 - flopping around like a fish out of water to
 - waving her arms and legs around like a distressed octopus to
 - checking out what was in-between her toes ("I'm just cleaning in between my toes, mama") to
 - laying there quietly whispering to herself to
 - snoring not-so-softly into dream land.

As I watched this progression into restful sleep, I couldn't help but notice how Little Miss M's eyes (or more specifically, her eyelids) would go from a rapid blink to a slow lazy blink until, eventually, her eyelids did not open again as she finally drifted off to sleep.

This would be in direct contrast to my journey into dreamland where I would shut my eyes first and then flop around like a fish out of water trying to find the most comfortable position and then quietly whisper to myself and then turn on the ipod to listen to the latest podcast before falling asleep (and no, I generally don't check out what's going on in-between my toes during my bedtime routine).

I wonder when I moved from closing my eyes last to closing them first.  And does this reflect moving from "there are so many exciting things going on, I can't bear to close my eyes" to "there are so many things going on, let me just burrow into the covers and forget about it all"?

Anyways, here's a doona cover that I made for Little Miss M's cousin.  Happy 3rd Birthday Chloe!!

Monkey See; Monkey Do

I was just monkeying around the kitchen... I had some dough leftover from baking dinner rolls and cinnamon buns (yeah - it was alot of dough!) and I had seen this idea from the Pioneer Woman previously.  Cinnamon, butter, sugar and a dash of sweetened condensed milk - yes please!!!  Ok, so maybe, just maybe, I accidentally on purpose put some dough aside just so I could indulge in this .... well, indulgence. And what an indulgence - worse still, an easy indulgence as I already had the dough.  Caramelised cinnamon sugar with a bit of bread covered with sweetened condensed milk.  I don't think I really need to say more. And, in honour of Father's Day, we had special "WE heart DADDY" pancakes... ok ok - I ran out of time, energy and ideas this year.  (Note to self - try harder next year!) Don't mock the banana - at $12.99/kg this is a real treat.  Unfortunately Daddy was too slow and Little Miss M took it and ate it.  It might be Fat...

The Hummingbird Bakery Cake Days Cupcakes

I have seriously tried to limit the number of cookbooks in my bookshelf.  Not only is the internet a major source of information (and free at that!), but we just don't have the space. However, there are a few cookbooks that I love having on hand, in person, ready to be flicked through at a moments notice.  And this book - the Hummingbird Bakery Cake Days - is fast becoming one of those books.  I love it even more so as it was a "just because" present from my Dear Husband :) The cover is textured and PINK.  Not just a pastel pretty pink, but a bright-in-your-face PINK!!  There's no mistaking the market for this cookbook.  And the rest of the book follows in its bold use of colors.  This cookbook, for me, provides inspiration by way of baking, photography, and food styling.  Much progress on the first one, not so much on the last two.. oh well, so let's talk about the baking. So far, I've tried two basic recipes - the vanilla cupcakes with van...
